My Fathers Shoes

My Fathers Shoes

This is my story of when I was little like you.

It is a story of seeing my father through the eyes of a child.

When I was little, my father seemed so big!

He was much taller than I.

He was much stronger than I.

He was much wiser than I.

In my eyes, my father could do everything.

I would often go in my father’s room and look at his shoes.

With much wonder, I would step into my father’s shoes

I was amazed at how big they were.

I could barely walk with them on.

I would shuffle my feet as I tried to walk in them.

I could not imagine ever fitting into them.

It seemed that I would never be as big as my father.

When I would see my father work outside or around the house,

I would think to myself, that there is no one as strong as my father.

He was strong enough to do anything in my eyes!

There was no bolt on too tight.

There was nothing too heavy for him to lift.

There was no job that he could not do.

If a toy of mine broke, my father could fix it.

If I had a question, my father could answer it.

If I got hurt, my father would make it better.

Whatever I saw my father do, I also wanted to do.

I wanted to be just like my dad.

There was one time I remember.

My mother, father, sisters and I were out on our boat.

We were catching crabs in the river.

All of the sudden, with no warning-

The skies turned black!

As the skies turned black, a mighty wind arose.

In a matter of minutes there was a most terrible storm!

The rain came down so hard!

The winds and seas tossed our little boat about.

My mother and sisters became very afraid!

My father took up the anchor and decided to ride out the storm.

I had great faith in my father.

I knew that in his hands, we would be fine, no matter how great the storm.

My mother and sisters continued to panic.

They cried and worried.

My faith was strong, I had no fear.

After awhile, the storm stopped.

It was a bad storm, but now it was over.

My father had kept us safe.

I could see in my father that he was upset.

Not at me, but at my mother and sisters.

He was sad that they had no faith in him.

This hurt my father and displeased him greatly.

I could also see, that he was very pleased with me.

For I never doubted him.

I will never forget that day on the river.

And looking back on it.

I have great joy in knowing that I trusted my father.

He was everything to me that a father should be.

Now I am older and a father myself.

Many things I know now and want to share with you.

There are men who are stronger than my father.

Men who are wiser than my father.

That my father did have limits on what he could do.

Now there is more to this story.

And these things I am telling you are the most important of all.

You also have a Father in heaven.

And your Father in heaven has no limits to His strength!

Your Father in heaven has no limits to His wisdom!

Your Father in heaven can do all things!

Your Father in heaven wants you to try on His shoes!

You might not fit in them, but that’s ok.

He wants you to try and be like Him.

He wants you to have no fears- ever!

He only wants that you should have faith in Him and trust Him.

It pleases Him very, very much when we trust Him with all things.

As the bible says, we are to come to Him like little children.

That means, knowing that God can do all things.

Loving Him as He loves us.

Having complete trust in Him and seeing how big He really is.

So, go now and try on your Father’s shoes.

The End
