According to competition commission, the PIA has also been fined for 10 million rupees to be returned to Hajj pilgrims as token fine over charging additional money from pilgrims in 2008.
According to the notification sent to PIA, national airline increased the fare charges on Southern Route from Rs.38,500 to Rs.70,000 in 2008 besides, it also increased fare charges on Southern Route from Rs.46,200 to Rs.85,000.
PIA took fare charges too much more as compared to other private airlines on the same route in 2008, notification mentioned.
PIA took negative advantage of its monopoly status on Hajj fare charges, which is against competition commission, it added.
On the other hand, PIA sources told Geo news the Hajj fare charges are settled through consultation with Ministry for Religious Affairs.
